Power of Songs

Songs can make us feel happy, sometimes by listening to it we might suddenly feel sad, sometimes it could really boost our spirit beyond the limit. personally, songs do have impact on me. When I listen to a sad song, my mood will change and I will just sink in the mood created by the song.

Songs indeed can change people or the least to motivate people to change. Songs like "Firework" by Katy Perry is one of the inspirational songs that suggest people to express themselves rather than just remain introvert and succumb to the expectation set upon them.

It is not an easy job to motivate people to change for the better. Songs might be the best way to motivate them as songs not only something that everyone loves to listen to but the manipulation of the lyrics by the song writer to motivate people is something that we should pay attention to. Good lyrics with interesting beat together with popular singer will create impact for the listener with the message hidden in the beautifully composed lyrics.

Leader's Qualities

We need leader to lead us to success. Leader is someone that can be trusted and reliable. Based on the story "Animal Farm" and also the speeches of few well-known world leaders, there are few similarities in those leaders:

1) The usage of persuasive language
2) High level of confidence
3) Exploitation of sensitive issues
4) Strong eye contact with audiences
5) The choice of words

Those are the common leader qualities that make us believe in their speeches and believe in their ability to be our leader. We must be very careful in choosing the right leader and not simply fall for these qualities as they can develop these qualities just to get our trust and believe.

Animal Farm-The Animated

This story is more than just an entertainment to me. Though it was presented in an animated form, but the messages hidden are well conveyed. The story is written long ago but still it is relevance with our modern society. Just look at how people crave for power and they tend to misuse the power given to them without any regard to the people who believed in them that made them have the power. Human are easily swayed with power and money. They will do anything as long as they can remain indulge themselves with luxury life. Just like the pigs in this story, once they have experienced how enjoyable their life could be by staying in the house, they were no longer concern about other animals welfare as Napoleon once promised them that all animal will be taken care of with good care.

The pigs in the story manipulate the animals in the farm as they please. They even manipulate the seven commandments which can be considered as their set of rules after they took over the farm. Napoleon also killed some animals that became a threat to his government. Just like what happened in our world today, people is killed without reason just to cover bad things that they have committed. The corruption in leadership is not a new thing, it already exists long time ago when human started to corrupt inside.

After watching this movie, I realized that the problems that we are facing today is actually came from us. We are too ignorant to see all these are coming in our way. We shouldn't take anyone for granted because everyone changes and that is our nature as human.

Movie Review - Mona Lisa Smile

I was amazed by how powerful a teacher could influence the students in making choices for their future after watching this amazing movie. The tradition that already rooted in the students from a conservative Wellesly College that deny the new way to appreciate life brought by a wonderful teacher makes the story interesting. One thing that struck to my mind while watching this movie was the way of most women think are quite alike even today's women tend to think that they born to fill the responsibilities to their husbands, families and children, but how about the responsibilities towards themselves?
Most of the Wellesly's students would end up married though they were brilliant students who posses the required criteria to fulfill their ambitions. As a teacher we must be alert of certain culture or trend that being practiced by our students that might offer more harm than good to them. Like what Miss Katherine Ann Watson did in the movie, she tried to change her students point of view about life because she wanted her students to realize that they deserved to have an equal right to be what they want and not bounded to society's expectation.

Students sometimes too scared to break the tradition as they might not be accepted by the society and for that particular reason they have to bear the suffers  just to satisfy the society. Just be what we want to be because we know ourselves better then others.

Monalisa and her famous smile..but do we know what she is hiding behind her beautiful smile?

Movie Review - Lean On Me

It was quite frightening to see how a school could turn to a place where no respect and order could retain students from doing as they pleased. I would say that everything about this movie was quite exaggerated in terms of how the school was portrayed and this might just add more negative impression towards the black people. By watching this movie I realized that how important for us to educate the students for not letting them to destroy their future. The Principal Joe Clark tried his best to help the students though he had to expel quite a number of students just to show how serious he was in helping those students from being affected by those parasites. In this story we could see how close the principal with his students. He would personally attend to the students to listen to their problems.

I can't really say that any of my teachers during my school years would resemble the character of the principal in this story, but one thing they have in common would be they would try their best to help the students to solve their problems especially if it was related with academic purposes.

Based on the movie, I have learned that  as a teacher we must not give up until we have achieved what we have planned for our students and also we must listen to the people who always be with us because sometimes we might take everything for granted.

Dowry Oh Dowry

Dowry really gives big impact to a wedding, not particularly to Indian only, but I believe to Malay and Chinese as well. As for me, dowry is something that culturally bound and just to impress others by how big the dowry is. It is no longer serves the purpose of "present" nowadays, people are eager to put higher dowry than others maybe for the seek of showing off but subtly cover it up with giving excuse that the expenses for the wedding are expensive. I remembered someone said to his friend when asked about the dowry of his daughter: "I'm not selling my daughter, why would I put very high dowry?". But, unfortunately there are some parents who put their daughter for "sale" by putting very high dowry and that will burden the guy who will have to struggle to collect the money not only for the dowry but also for other expenses. But it really depends on the person, if they could afford for high dowry they should go for it and for those who couldn't they have to find alternatives to satisfy both parties. Some said dowry is the symbol of love...ask yourself then!

Movie Review - Akeela and the bee

For entertainment aspect this movie is quite interesting because the title suggests something fun and viewers might be wondering is the bee is a bee or something else and it is quite impossible for the viewers to have it in mind the bee is actually the spelling bee.

This story pretty much concerns about English and how Dr. Larabee manages to help Akeela in her spelling bee competition with Akeela's negative attitude shown at the beginning of the story. As a teacher to Akeela, Dr. Larabee is determined to help Akeela with everything he would come out with and the determination is what I need to keep me focus to finish my course. I wish I have a teacher like Dr. Larabee during my school time, because I really suck in English subject and there was a time I really hate English as much as I hate people who smoking! But still I have to thank all my teachers who taught me English because eventually, they managed to change my perception on English and to get me to the ground where I stand today. What happened in the story will definitely face by me when I teach in school in the future. The main lesson that could be gathered by me would be no matter who we are, we are still eligible to be a successful person one day.

Most remembered childhood story

Piglet And The Dark

When I was told that we have to tell a childhood story to the class, this story suddenly struck in my mind. I remembered how I asked my mom to buy this book
for me. This story taught me not to say no until we have tried to do something that we are afraid of. Like the main character in the story,
Piglet who afraid of the night and refuse to go out during the night time. Her concern friends tried to help her to overcome the fright
by taking her out during the night and showing her a star formation that looked exactly like Piglet. Since then she is not afraid of the
dark anymore because there is some one is looking after her.

One interesting element used in this story is the author used cute animals as the characters to attract children attention to
read the book. The author portrayed the characters just like the children themselves, they were very playful and love to spend time with their friends.
This story advocates the friendship value that should be taught to the children in early age and for that reason I think this book is suitable
for the children to read.

The Gruffalo

I'm so amused by this story! How brilliantly a tiny mouse outsmarted other animals which were hundred times bigger than him by using
only his brilliant brain and not his strength. The story line was created so wonderfully with all elements of children story in it.
I wish i could write a piece like Graffallo one day! It is amazing that the writer could think of something like this and how subtly
the writer embedded the lesson for the children. Just like the tiny mouse, children also have to go through all sort of challenges in
life and they have to be smart just to avoid from being a victim. Children need to be thought about the real life but they are too
young to understand a single thing about life, through stories, fables, and myths, we could help them to reveal the definition
of life layer by layer, just to make them aware of what to expect in future.

Edwina the Emu

Though I never came across with this children story before, but I think I love the story once the story told to me.
My first impression on the story was it must be about the emu who lived in the zoo and she would face few problems with the other animals in the zoo,
but surprisingly, it was about a pair of emu, Edwina and Edwin who madly in love and live so happily until Edwina laid her eggs. I love this part of the
story where it seriously resembled issues faced by human when planning to start  a family which is who is going to be the provider.

Edwina and Edwin also in the same dilemma and Edwina broke the tradition by taking the responsibility of being the provider. She went to the town,
looking for a job but then she realised that her real "job" is to look after her eggs and let her husband be the provider. Subtly, this story teach
children the role of gender in society in an interesting way. Children will learn the roles of boys and the roles of girls in their life.

Children always concern about their roles and keep on asking why boys can do this but girls are not allowed to and vice versa.
We need to be creative when dealing with children because they are so fragile and requires an extra care in filling them with useful
knowldge for future use.
